Protect the Mother Earth: A Poem by Staffy Bhateja (Steffi)

The evolution of man from obscure
Nature protected him with love and care
But, man, the ‘rational’ being of all
Turned it into a vessel shallow and bare
The give and take law ceased
For the Earth generously gave and gave
But, Man rushed into development
Completely forgetting his life-bearer in a mad race
With lead-heavy skies
And river and seas impure
Poaching of our fellow beings rampant
Future looks vague and insecure
Population exploding
Devouring the resources scant
O fellow being! Rush!
For our Earth looks trapped in quick sand
Let us get together and strive
To start life afresh
Let us make it a new beginning
To protect our Mother Earth with full zest
