A winter night: A poem by Jellie N.Wyckelsma

After sundown the Antarctic storms retreated;
Their icy mission accomplished.
The last, lost snowflakes descended,
Joining all that had fallen before,
Softly blanketing the earth.
Trees proudly displayed their white attire.
Shrubs and plants sighed under the weight.
Birds snuggled in their nests.
Rabbits and hares remained in their lairs.
Even an old owl stayed in hiding.
From behind woolly clouds
The bleak full moon appeared briefly,
Showering the earth with its soft rays,
Transforming my garden into
A sparkling winter wonderland …
I stepped outside.
Silence was all I could hear …
