You are a Gandhi: A poem by Birendra K Agrawal

If you can raise your voice against a wrong
And speak straight to the enemy however strong
If you can fight till your last breath without malice
Towards the sinner, yet make him stop the injustice
This then I will say with pride and glee
My Brother, you are a Gandhi to me!
If you see a man suffer for he is oppressed and weak
And serve him with love and in return, nothing seek
If you can gladly lose what’s yours to help the needy
And not brag about your noble service to humanity
This then I will say with pride and glee
My Brother, you are a Gandhi to me!
If you can cherish your fond truths and cling to them
Yet not scoff at other people’s truths nor condemn
If you can sacrifice kins for nation and nation for mankind
And not build walls about you and therein remain confined
This then I will say with pride and glee
My Brother, you are a Gandhi to me!
The Gandhi the world knows is an eternally flowing river
Let us each be drops and prove worthy of Bapu, our Father
