The Asian Literary Society (ALS) in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Republic of Maldives, Ahmadhiyya International School and The Marketers Summit organized the ALS CARAVAN 2024 MALDIVES in Ahmadhiyya International School Hall, Malé, Maldives on Saturday, 11th May 2024.
ALS CARAVAN 2024 was inaugurated by the main collaborator Director of the Indian Cultural Centre, Ms. Manjistha Mukherjee whose unwavering support made this possible on behalf of the High Commission of India, Republic of Maldives. In her speech she emphasised that ALS’s objective of facilitating people-to-people connections, to bridge cultures and to forge relations that transcend borders and boundaries aligned perfectly with the mandate of the ICC, which gave her purpose in falicitating the hosting of ALS Caravan in Maldives. The live musical concert by ICC left the audience spellbound and the Director went on to throw light on how the ICC is dedicated to fostering Indo-Maldivian friendship and goodwill through a wide array of cultural initiatives and activities.
The Guests of Honours for this event were: Dr. Asharaf Abdhuraheem [President, Dhivehi Language Academy, Maldives], Mr. Asim Abdul Sattar [Dean, Faculty of Arts, Maldives National University]. Mr. Manoj Krishnan (Founder, ALS) was present at the event and he spoke about the ALS and its initiatives. Deputy Minister NCPA also graced the occasion with his august presence.
In the ALS CARAVAN 2024 MALDIVES, there was a Maldivian release of the book “Ebbing Echoes- An Anthology of Articles on Lesser-Known Languages & Art Forms of Indigenous Communities of Asia” compiled and edited by Mr. Manoj Krishnan.
A panel discussion was organized on the topic “Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in Maldives”. The panelists were Mr. Ibrahim Waheed (Author & Statesman), Ms. Aminath Saeed (Senior Lecturer in Language and Linguistics at the Maldives National University), and Mr. Abdul Rasheed Ali (Director General, Training and Development, Maldives National University).
In this event, ALS Maldives Poetry Contest winners were felicitated. This contest was organized for Adults (18+), Young People (Ages 12 to 17), and Children (under 12) categories.
Other highlight of the day was poetry readings by eminent poets from India and Maldives.
ALS CARAVAN 2024 MALDIVES event aimed to celebrate the rich, diverse, and multicultural heritage of Maldives. Through such events, cultural and social initiatives, ALS promotes mutual understanding and collaboration among community members from India and other Asian countries.
