Listen To The Voices- An Ode to the Fighting Spirit: A Poem by Srividya Subramanian

Hear! What they say untold
From dingy darkness and abysmal depths
Where suppressed sobs unfold,
A story hidden in muffled breaths.

Feel! Their skin, black and blue
Yet, lashing out at the tyrants,
Who created brave hearts and have no clue,
That they will be torn into fragments.

Break! Those barriers tall and vast,
For they do not serve the cause.
Grit and greatness till eternity last
Builders of barriers face wholesome loss.

Listen! To the voices whispering within
They are a slow-growing storm,
That will snuff out supercilious beings
And awaken the world to its true form.

Bow! Your heads to the unscathed,
Whose spirit the burns could not douse,
They rule unseen, our mind and heart
Salute the priceless passion they arouse.

Poet’s Note: This poem is written in the form of an Ode (formal address to someone or something). This poetry is a tribute to all the warriors- in war and otherwise, whose unthinkable resilience and fighting spirit left an indelible mark on the world. They are an inspiration for future generations and we must listen to their voices.
