‘Honesty is the best policy’! Who has not heard these prophetic words at least once in his life? Honesty is one of the eternal moral values since time immemorial. There is no denying the fact that every human being should inculcate this ‘golden principle’ of a good life. However, skeptics raise a basic question: should one opt for honesty even in case of danger to life? or, if by deviating from the path of honesty, if one can save the lives of others, still should we go for it? The answer to both the questions does not seem to be an easy one! It depends upon one’s moral and spiritual fabric altogether. Some people vouch for their honesty even in oddest of circumstances while others seek the other way round. After all, human life is precious and one is not sure of getting another chance to be born as a human being. Here, it is important to note that nothing can be seen in absolute terms in this world. Even all our good values and moral principles are not absolute in that sense. If this is true then can it be an escape route or a detour from our long cherished value system? The answer is clear cut ‘no’! This world will become a living hell if such good and eternal values will not be espoused by the denizens of this planet earth. Honesty is such a shining example of such values. Also, honesty must be practiced not only in terms of money matters. It should be manifold i.e. moneywise, thoughtwise, and actionwise. Only then we will be authorized to call ourselves honest. Honesty is the foundation of a good and robust society and a strong nation. Let us pay our gratitude to our moorings imbibing the glorious traditions of the good samaritans!
