College Days: A Story by Aaradhana Agarwal

COLLEGE DAYS
Kudos to her excellent academic performance that fixed a seat for her in one of the most reputed Engineering colleges where the crowd was mainly of the elite class. She was sure she would never befriend anyone who belonged to the affluent community. She grew up listening to the stories of the rich spoiled brats who loved to splurge as they had a solid financial base. They were never serious about building their career.
In her classroom, a group of students was highly dedicated to their studies and were equally excellent in the social and cultural programs. The group comprised six girls and eight boys. She inquired about them and found that they were together since their pre-schooling days. They didn’t encourage any new students to enter their close-knit group. She saw each of them as very hardworking, sincere, and enthusiastic about achieving goals.
One day, the college was facilitating some students who had achieved extraordinary success in the socio-economic field. At 4 pm the celebration started. The anchor narrated how a group of students developed an entire village into a smart village with their creativity and philanthropic nature.
When the students were in class XII, they adopted the village comprised of a hundred farmers’ families. Though their parents were ultra-rich, they preferred to proceed without monetary help from their parents. They earned money through their artistic skills and educated the villagers about modern technologies and newly developed infrastructure. Within three years, the village had been certified by the government as a smart village. These students had reserved their seats in the Urban Development Department. Once they get their degrees, they would join the Department.
Amidst the huge round of applause, the students arrived on the stage. She was stunned to see that they were her classmates. It was hard for her to digest that rich children could be so mature. The principal asked one of them to share the group’s success story. He began his narration, “It is true we have wealthy parents who’re ready to go to any extent to help us. But, we have grown up watching our parents doing hard work. They have sacrificed their little joys to reach a respectable position in the country. Saving money and utilizing it in the best manner is given by us the utmost importance because it is earned through hard labor.
We hate being financially dependent. So, we improved our artistic skills and earned enough money through art exhibitions. In this way, we have brought a radicle change in the village. The village panchayat took our suggestions seriously and implemented those. It is the result of our combined efforts.” He concluded by saying, “If we won’t make sincere efforts to retain our family’s reputation, then how long would it be with us?”
Since then, she had huge respect for the opulent class. She learned that highly privileged children value wealth creation. With their hard work, strong determination, and proper planning they reach the pinnacle of success.
