Promise: A poem by Uma Natarajan

I promise to offer a shoulder to lean on, and my hands to hold on
I whisper at your ears that things would be at ease
Since you should not give up your mental peace
I again promise that I will share your pain and laughter, and would follow hereafter
I promise myself to keep myself always towards light even when it is dark
I would brief to respite from despair and grief to the mark
I feel the light would take me away in my plight
When the darkness of the night would descend slight
I would think about extinct of fireflies
alive glowing before my vision
I would refuse to succumb Darkness’s mission
Hugging the light always with heaving bosom
I promise to rise like the sun awesome
As long as I would breathe, I promise not to trail
I promise life to relieve from Flux and fail
As long as stars twinkle, I promise to love the world, chasing away negative thoughts
Cutting remarks and critical words would not affect my promise
I would see that personal battle comes to an end by choice
Haunting memories of past mistakes would not be allowed to linger
My promises would come from inside
And it is this power inherited from God would transform to mingle in this world
