The Tale of Betrayal: A Poem by Dr. Mallika Tripathi

I was unfettered spirit, soaring unrestrained through bosom of nature,
A heart brimming with love and boundless hope.
I luxuriated in the kaleidoscope of life’s vivid hues,
Disseminating joy to those around me,
Mending fractured souls, healing wounds with a mere touch.

Then you emerged, an apparition that altered my existence,
An illusion so beguiling, I became ensnared in your enchantment.
Your smile drove me to the brink of madness,
I plunged irrevocably into the abyss of love for you.

I forsook everything for an eternal, celestial union.
Every covenant, every oath, dwindled to insignificance before your allure.
My universe contracted, its entirety fixated solely upon you,
Until the day your true visage emerged from the shadows,
Not the radiant hues of love,
But shades of malevolence,
barbarism, treachery, and sanguine-stained deceptions.

I quaked, comprehending the grotesque nightmare I had unwittingly embraced.
I yearned for my kin, my tribe, I had forsaken,
But you, with ruthless precision, severed every tie,
Condemning me to a solitary existence,
I cried, I yelled but in a void,
My voice stifled, ensnared within a prison of asphyxiation,
Enduring in your shadow until you extinguish the fire completely,
A love metamorphosed into torment, a life annihilated,
By someone, I once trusted to cradle my fragile being.
