Whispers of the Night

The storm is over, the rain has stopped,

Quiet is the night which whispers,

Like a soft breeze in my ears,

Your journey is done, the end is near.

Life has been beautiful, yet turbulent,

Life has been peaceful, yet tumultuous,

The sun has set, the starry night whispers,

Your journey is almost over.

I wish for a few more years,

To play with my grandchildren,

To read, to write, to listen to music,

But the night whispers, your journey ends here.

Every moment has become a memory,

Each passing day has become a story,

The fledglings have flown to their nests,

The night whispers, your journey will end.

Mortality is inevitable, it will come,

Slowly or suddenly to all– great or small,

The night is full of whispers,

Every human river will mingle with the ocean.
