Mystery of The Mansarovar Lake: A Poem by Lakshmi Ajoy

It was the thirteenth day of May in the year 2012. The clock struck midnight. The silvery gleam of the full moon sparkled brilliantly against the night skies and a million stars sparkled like diamond dust in the black widespread canvas of the Cosmos. I was bundled up in a supposedly warm sleeping bag in the common tent that housed at least a dozen others. The pristine pure Mansarovar Lake reflected the shades of the night skies and glimmered as the brightest night the place has ever witnessed in months. This full moon night of “Buddha Poornima” was considered holy and auspicious. It was ultra special for me because I was witness to one of the biggest miracles of all times. I was fast asleep in a deep slumber after an arduous trek to rest at the campsite on the banks of this Holy Mansarovar Lake. My eyes suddenly awakened to an inner calling that beckoned me to get out of the tent to witness falling meteorites. The moon was already spread in a gigantuous fashion and seemed to consume us within. This spectacular view was already mesmerizing. From the falling meteorites, I remained spellbound to observe the disembarking of celestial nymphs locally called “Apsaras” to bathe, shower, play, dance, enjoy and pay obeisance to the refreshing beauty of this bewitching scene and also circumambulate the Holy Mount Kailash, the abode of the Adiyogi, Lord Shiva. I was dumbstruck in absolute ecstasy as I stood there in utter silence to view this remarkable gathering. Though this was a one of its kind attention-seeking experience, it was also rather mythical and unbelievable for the general masses. I remained enthralled by this incredible experience that remains etched in my heart, memory, and Soul forever as I stand as a sole witness to this mind-boggling scenario.
