When ma went she left a void in my life. The grief of losing her was unbearable. I was curled up in bed for days, eyes swollen due to weeping continuously, voice gone, spirit fraying. I had become numb and cold. I didn’t know how to get on with life again.
Still, you never left me alone. You steadied me with your unconditional love. You didn’t offer me unsolicited advice, nor judged me.You never pushed me over the edge to get better. Your actions spoke louder than words.
You just lay down beside me. Close enough for me to feel your warmth and love. It was enough for me to match my breath to yours. And in that silence, your presence spoke what I needed: You are not alone,you are loved and I will always be your guardian angel.
There were days I couldn’t get up? When the world outside felt too bright, too loud, too cruel? I’d turn my face to the wall hating the cruel world.
But you would be nuzzling into my neck. You’d nudge my hand gently, again and again, until I showed signs of movement. The minute you saw the movement ,it would be enough for you to crawl inside the sheets. You’d press your chest against mine, trying to pump my chest into motion. Having you beside me soothed my frazzled nerves.
With you by my side my melancholy lessened. You have always been my saviour.The way you put your head on my lap, licked my face when tears coursed down my cheeks, my sorrow lessened. You waited for me to heal without saying anything. You wagged your tail nineteen to a dozen the day you saw me smile and come back to life.
I can only say you are the only heartbeat that matches the rhythm of my sadness without making me feel like a failure. Your presence gave me something to hold onto when the world felt like it was slipping through my fingers.
But now I promise to love you fiercely for the time we stay together. I will never take you for granted. Without your love I won’t be able to exist.
You are the calm in my chaos. My comfort in times of loneliness and joy in my lowest days.
I thank you for loving me so purely.Till you came into my life I didn’t know what true love was. You are my heart and soul, who doesn’t judge me but accepts me the way I am. You are my healer, anchor and light of my life.
