Starry night: A poem by Jayashree Bhattacherjee

On a mystical, magical, silent, silvery, starry night
Dispelling darkness when the rising stars in the sky smiled bright
One amongst  them was brilliantly luminous
That guided the three wise men to Bethlehem, their destination glorious
Where Jesus was born that night on earth
Amazed by His grace, Joseph and Mary were filled with mirth
The simple shepherds from the star-lit brooks
Came to see Him with their visionary looks
The wise men brought for Him incense, myrrh, and gold
Those, Baby’s hands were incapable to hold
So, these Magi of the East placed their gifts on the ground
Knelt reverently, bowed low with their beards sweeping round
Laid in a manger, surrounded by cows and  sheep
Wise men, shepherds, and angels gathered round to watch him sleep
From that very night when glory trails blazed all over the night
As we celebrate each year our Saviour’s  birth on Christmas starry night
With ardor, splendor and rejoicing sacred rite
Let the less fortunate ones receive more loving care
Like the shining, smiling stars of the night, with them let our smiles share.
