After clearing a tough competitive examination, Shyama managed to get into a premium business school. She was not only focused in her studies, but good in all kinds of extracurricular activities that were available in the campus. Overall a kind, good looking, soft hearted persona, with a helpful attitude. She had become quite a sought after girl by fellow colleagues and seniors too.
Rohit, an introvert, though extremely good in studies was a serious person. He would mostly keep to himself and spend most of the time in the library. He was least interested in the school’s activities, a loner who would hardly interact with others. But he was longing for a sincere partner as he had a disturbed childhood due to his separated parents.
During the ‘Spring Business Fair’ in the campus, both of them happened to be in the same team in the same stall. Their stall was awarded the best prize as it was very well organised having the maximum visitors, with the highest ticket sale revenue of participants. They spent a considerable time together while preparing for the fair, and happened to come close post the event. It was the best spring of their love life.
They became an integral part of the group of five friends post the fair. Prashant, had a crush on Shyama since the day she had come to the school, but never got an opportunity to speak to her. But now as they were together in the group, he got ample opportunity to seek her attention. As he did not succeed in his mission of getting any positive signal of friendship, out of sheer jealousy, he thought of creating differences between her and Rohit with a malicious intent.
Whenever he got an opportunity, would try to malign the character of Rohit in every possible way in front of Shyama. He was doing all this so subtly that she got into the trap and started disbelieving all the explanations or clarifications given by Rohit. This created a rift in their relationship and they drifted apart.
In the second year, when they came back to school after the winter vacation, Shyama suddenly announced her engagement with another boy chosen by her family. Spring was round the corner and interviews for the job placements had begun. Rohit, on hearing this news got so emotionally disturbed that he slashed his wrist. Due to a heavy blood loss, had to be hospitalised for a few days. Despite being a topper, he could not appear for the campus interview of the best company for the most coveted job.
After a long gap of ten years, when in the school alumni meet, Shyama learnt of Prashant’s malicious intent. She was filled with regret and could never forgive herself for spoiling the career and life of her best friend.
