Reminiscence: A Poem by Sangeetha Kamath Prabhu

The idyll of summer days and picnic fun were daubed with all the hues of a rainbow and the golden sun

When puffy clouds reminded me of spun cotton candy and frosting cream on cake…

Daydreams opened a portal, a gateway to a fantasy world with dolphins and even mermaids

Hearty laughter were the tinkling of our souls when I waited for you in the fading sepia light of late noon

Upon the rain-washed sky of deep ultramarine

Billowed burgeoning clouds in shades of citrine

Sunbeams sparkled and arcs of rainbows shimmered on a perfect dome of azure

Reminding me of songs and poems pristine and pure

I could steal silken strands out of the summery cobalt

And weave a duvet to cocoon my porcelain heart..

The cherry-blossom and vanilla-infused sweet spring fragrance as a gossamer shawl embraced me

The silken hearts of Sakura rain down blessings of pink confetti

Every day was a melodious love song when I wished to spread my diaphanous wings and fly away to the moon with you…

The winters in their somber majesty heralded crackling fireplaces with mugs of steaming hot chocolate and a marshmallow or two

Sitting by my window with my tresses silvery platinum, every moment is a deja vu from a favorite childhood storybook

Flipping through albums and faded photographs, fractions of time light up my room radiantly alive

The guitar stands solemnly in a corner, awaiting us once more to jig and jive…

The rising cinnamon loaf in the oven is still garnished with parsley and chive

Those were the days with you seven decades of cherishing galore

You were my summer, now I’m immune to winter chills; they don’t bother me anymore.
