Press Release: Asian Literary Society (ALS) organised the 5th ALS Caravan 2025 in Sri Lanka
The Asian Literary Society (ALS), in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Sri Lanka, hosted the ALS Caravan 2025 Sri Lanka on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in the Main Auditorium of the National Library and Documentation Services Board, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Rajiva Wijesinha, a distinguished writer and former Member of Parliament, in the esteemed presence of Guests of Honour: Prof. Ankuran Dutta, Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Colombo, and Mr. W. Sunil, National Library and Documentation Services Board.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Manoj Krishnan, Founder of ALS, emphasized that ALS Caravan 2025 – Sri Lanka serves as a tribute to the island’s vibrant, diverse, and multicultural heritage. He highlighted ALS’s commitment to fostering mutual understanding and collaboration among communities in India and across Asia through cultural and social initiatives, forging bonds that transcend borders.
Dr. Bishakha Das (Sarma), Linguist and Administrator of ALS Indigenous Languages, underscored the importance of organizing such events to promote, preserve, and revitalize indigenous languages by integrating them into cultural programs.
A key highlight of the ALS Caravan 2025 Sri Lanka was the Sri Lankan release of the book Song of Silence by Mr. Manoj Krishnan. The book is described as a poetic expression of deep emotions, drawn from the heart and woven onto the vast canvas of the poet’s imagination.
A panel discussion titled “How Far Do We Adhere to Our Roots: Exploring Literature, Language, and Cultural Heritage of Sri Lanka” featured distinguished panelists: Kamala Wijeratne (Sahitya Ratna Awardee, 2019), Dr. Romola Rassool (Director, Open University), Dr. Devika Brendon (Writer, Reviewer, and Editor, New Ceylon Writing Literary Journal), Dr. Dhammika Jayasinghe (Senior Lecturer, Department of Sinhala, University of Ruhuna), Vihanga Perera (Literary Scholar and Creative Writer), Kris Thomas (Writer and Journalist), and Dr. Vivimarie Van DerPoorten (Poet and Senior Lecturer, English and Linguistics, Open University). The panel was moderated by Dr. Bishakha Das.
The event also celebrated the winners of the ALS Sri Lanka Sinhala and English Poetry Contest, organized for three categories: Adults (18+), Young People (Ages 12–17), and Children (under 12). Another highlight was the poetry reading sessions, featuring works in Sinhala and an English poetry reading panel titled Serenity by Serendipity. Participants included Grace Wickremasinghe, Haala Marikar, Kaviru Samarawickrama, Lawanya Wijesekera, Sakuntala Sachithanandan, Malinda Seneviratne, Shirani Rajapakse, Shashikala Assella, E.M. Tennakoon, Sakina Mohammed, and Padmini Sriyalatha
Ms. Shivpriya, Administrator of ALS, captivated the audience with her poetry recitation.
ALS Caravan 2025 Sri Lanka aimed to celebrate the island’s rich, diverse, and multicultural heritage while promoting mutual understanding and collaboration among communities from India and other Asian countries through impactful cultural and social initiatives.

एशियन लिटरेरी सोसाइटी (एएलएस ) ने एएलएस कारवां 2025 श्रीलंका का आयोजन किया
एशियन लिटरेरी सोसाइटी (एएलएस) ने श्रीलंका में भारत के उच्चायोग के भारतीय सांस्कृतिक केंद्र के सहयोग से, बुधवार, 7 मई 2025 को कोलंबो, श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रीय पुस्तकालय और प्रलेखन सेवा बोर्ड के मुख्य सभागार में एएलएस कारवां 2025 श्रीलंका का आयोजन किया।
इस कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन मुख्य अतिथि डॉ. राजीव विजेसिंह, एक प्रसिद्ध लेखक और पूर्व सांसद, ने किया। इस अवसर पर सम्मानित अतिथियों में शामिल थे: प्रो. अंकुरन दत्ता, निदेशक, आईसीसीआर , कोलंबो; श्री डब्ल्यू. सुनील, राष्ट्रीय पुस्तकालय और प्रलेखन सेवा बोर्ड।
एएलएस के संस्थापक श्री मनोज कृष्णन ने अपने उद्घाटन भाषण में कहा कि एएलएस कारवां– श्रीलंका, श्रीलंका की जीवंत, विविध और बहुसांस्कृतिक विरासत को श्रद्धांजलि है। उन्होंने भारत और एशिया भर के समुदायों के बीच आपसी समझ और सहयोग को बढ़ावा देने के लिए एएलएस की प्रतिबद्धता पर जोर दिया।
एएलएस स्वदेशी भाषाओं की प्रशासक, डॉ. बिशाखा शर्मा ने स्वदेशी भाषाओं को बढ़ावा देने, संरक्षित करने और पुनर्जनन करने के लिए इस तरह के आयोजनों के महत्व पर बल दिया।
एएलएस कारवां 2025 श्रीलंका का एक प्रमुख आकर्षण श्री मनोज कृष्णन की पुस्तक सांग ऑफ साईलेंस का श्रीलंकाई विमोचन था। इस पुस्तक को कवि के हृदय से निकलने वाली गहरी भावनाओं का काव्यात्मक अभिव्यक्ति बताया गया है।
“हम अपनी जड़ों का कितना पालन करते हैं: श्रीलंका के साहित्य, भाषा और सांस्कृतिक विरासत की खोज” शीर्षक से आयोजित एक पैनल चर्चा में प्रतिष्ठित पैनलिस्ट शामिल थे: कमला विजेरत्ने (साहित्य रत्न पुरस्कार विजेता, 2019), डॉ. रोमोला रसूल (निदेशक, ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी), डॉ. देविका ब्रेंडन (लेखक, समीक्षक, और न्यू सीलोन राइटिंग साहित्यिक पत्रिका की संपादक), डॉ. धम्मिका जयसिंघे (वरिष्ठ व्याख्याता, सिंहला विभाग, रुहुना विश्वविद्यालय), विहंगा परेरा (साहित्यिक विद्वान और रचनात्मक लेखक), क्रिस थॉमस (लेखक और पत्रकार), और डॉ. विविमारी वेंडरपोर्टन (कवि और ओपन यूनिवर्सिटी में अंग्रेजी और भाषाविज्ञान की वरिष्ठ व्याख्याता)।
इस आयोजन में एएलएस श्रीलंका सिंहला और अंग्रेजी कविता प्रतियोगिता के विजेताओं को भी सम्मानित किया गया। प्रतियोगिता को तीन श्रेणियों में आयोजित किया गया था: वयस्क (18+), युवा (12–17 वर्ष), और बच्चे (12 वर्ष से कम)। एक अन्य आकर्षण मातृभाषा (सिंहला ) में कविता पाठ सत्र और सेरेनिटी बाय सेरेंडिपिटी शीर्षक से अंग्रेजी कविता पाठ सत्र था। इसमें भाग लेने वालों में ग्रेस विक्रमसिंघे, हाला मरीकर, कविरु समरविच्क्रमा, लावण्या विजेसेकेरा, साकुंतला सचिथानंदन, मालिंदा सेनेविरत्ने, शिरानी राजपक्षे, शशिकला अस्सेला, ई.एम. तेनकून, सकीना मोहम्मद, पद्मिनी श्रीयलता शामिल थे।
एएलएस की प्रशासक सुश्री शिवप्रिया ने अपनी कविता पाठ से दर्शकों को मंत्रमुग्ध कर दिया।
एएलएस कारवां 2025 श्रीलंका का उद्देश्य श्रीलंका की समृद्ध, विविध और बहुसांस्कृतिक विरासत का उत्सव मनाने के साथ-साथ भारत और अन्य एशियाई देशों के समुदायों के बीच आपसी समझ और सहयोग को बढ़ावा देना था।
