Mom will be Mom

I was blissfully asleep when the telephone jolted me awake. It was my mom!

“Hi!” she chirped, diving right into her plans for the busy day ahead and all the exciting things she had lined up for the week.

“Mom,” I interrupted with a chuckle, “It’s five in the morning!”

“Really?” she replied, clearly still in her little world.

My mom has an incredible sense of humour, and she always finds a way to make everything light-hearted. Then, I got a text from her that made me giggle.

“Mona, your aunt Leena just had a dose of Botox!”

“Who told you, Mom?” I asked, intrigued.

“Oh! I ran into her at my kitty party, and her lips looked unusually plump!”

“Maybe she was having an allergic reaction,” I suggested playfully.

“You think I’m that clueless? I messaged her right after the party!” She laughed. “I told her, ‘Your face looks so beautiful and your skin so refreshing!’ She replied, ‘I just had a dose of Botox!’ Buddhi ghodi lal lagam, lol!”

I couldn’t help but laugh at my mother’s delightful antics!

Another day, I received another amusing message from her.

“Mona, your great-aunt passed away, lol.”

“Why is that funny?” I replied, puzzled.

“It’s not funny, Mona! What do you mean?”

“Mom, ‘lol’ means laughing out loud!”

Her eyes went wide with realization, “OMG! I sent that to everyone! I thought it meant lots of love! I have to call everyone back. Oh gosh!”

Then, she sent me a photo of herself by the phone, looking adorably sad with a puppy dog face, captioned, “A phone that never rings.”

“Mom, I call all the time!” I texted back with a smile.

The next time I called, I heard her voice message: “If you are a salesperson, press one. If you are a friend, press two. If you are my daughter who never calls, press 102, because the shock will probably give me a heart attack!”

Oh, how I adore her! Mom will always be my joy, and I feel incomplete without her.

You shower me with love, blessings, and your wicked sense of humour, Mom!
