Light of Love: A Story by Manisha Amol

Ruby and Pari, twin sisters, were born in a well to do family, that was settled in a metro city. The two girls were similar looking but Pari looked attractive because of her fairer skin colour and sharper features.

This difference in looks was always a matter of concern for Ruby, that created a sense of insecurity in her. She always had this feeling that every one whether in family or friends loved Pari more than her. That made her very rude towards her sister, and would always get offended at the most trivial matters if it was involving Pari.

Ruby was an extrovert, dominant, smart, intelligent girl and would excel in everything that she did. She always received praises from her friends but would leave no stone unturned to insult her sister.

Both were studying in the same class, but as they grew up the relationship between the two got bitter. Most of the time it would be the mistake of Ruby, but Pari being a good hearted person would let go of anything that was unpleasant.

Pari was a good looking, shy, obedient, and disciplined girl. She never felt that way towards her sister and would always forgive her for the misdeeds. This behaviour of hers was appreciated by everyone and that unnerved Ruby all the more.

They took admission in the same college but in different streams. Ruby joined in the science stream, Pari took up arts as she was a very creative person.

Joy, a classmate of Ruby, both of them soon became good friends. They would often meet outside the classroom in a cafe or in the college lawn, were seen together often in each other’s company. Ruby was very possessive about this relationship and would ensure that Joy to come home only when Pari was not around.

But destiny had its own way, one day when Joy and Ruby were sitting together at home, Pari happened to be there. Her presence seemed a pleasant surprise to Joy, he was very attracted towards her as if it was love at first sight. Though he did not express any emotion, just a casual acknowledgement of her presence as Ruby’s sister. Prior to this incident Joy was not aware that she had a twin sister.

Post that brief meeting, Joy tried to the best of his ability to woo Pari. She always avoided his company, as she did not want to spoil the equation between him and Ruby.

Ruby could sense that there was a growing gap between them. So she wanted to culminate this friendship quickly into a relationship. She spoke to her parents about Joy, called him home for dinner. She had made up her mind that today she will spring a surprise for everyone, not disclosing her plans to anyone.

Everyone was happily enjoying the dinner, Ruby was super excited, but Joy sitting in a thoughtful mood, kept looking at Pari in a very loving manner. Pari could feel his glances all over her but never looked up to see him. Ruby saw the light of love in Joy’s eyes for Pari. She had always yearned for this feeling from him which had never happened in the past.

Ruby realised that she had always done wrong with her sister, this time she would do one good deed to wash off her sins to a certain extent.

Suddenly she got up from the chair and announced the love relationship between Joy and Pari. Pari was taken aback and could not believe her eyes and ears.
Both the sisters hugged each other with teary eyes, the entire family was swept away by this sudden surprise including Joy.

The parents happily accepted the boy to be a part of their family, also agreed to solemnise the relationship soon. Ruby seemed the happiest person today.
