I Close My Eyes: A Poem by Shashi Dhar Kumar

I closed my eyes to hear the rain,
Whispers on my windowpane.
A melody danced upon the air,
A song of sorrow, a song of care.

I closed my eyes to chase a dream,
Through silver rivers, a golden gleam.
Mountains rose and stars took flight,
Carving wishes in the night.

I closed my eyes to taste the past,
Echoes held in shadows vast.
Laughter lingered, tears stood still,
Time bent softly to my will.

I closed my eyes to feel the dawn,
A hush before the world was drawn.
The sun stretched wide its golden hand,
And led my soul to understand.

I closed my eyes—but not to hide,
Not to run, nor cast aside.
I closed my eyes to see anew,
A world reborn in morning’s hue.
