Hope: A poem by Nisha Tandon

Swallows, symbolize hope as they gyrate and playfully swirl
Their litheness leaves minds of mortals in a constant whirl
Celestial harbingers who portend the advent of spring
Perched on a leafless branch they melodiously sing

As cold dark days of winter transform in the bright spring sun
Flowers that bloom symbolize the hope of good things to come
As we try to vanquish the indolence of days bygone
Nascent sunlight emerges languidly, promising of a new dawn

An anchor, a symbol of undying hope and steadfastness
Letting go of tumultuous past for new dreams that lie ahead
When lifted from the sea and set sail on an adventure new
It confronts storms but remains stable till the voyage is through

A candle burns majestically in the darkest of nights
Its wick weeps silently as with melting wax it reunites
When a blanket of melancholy in life seems to envelop
The flickering flame whispers softly to me not to lose hope

Hope is alive, a promise that needs time to surface
A miracle one anticipates and in grief is the only solace
We don’t surrender till all adversities in life are surpassed
As hope remains engendered in souls till we breathe our last
