Homeless: A poem by Pradnya Surve

A dark night
Fraught with nightmares
Mute witness to horrific sights
Trains filled with the distraught populace
Streets overflowing with dead and half-dead
Wanton harassment and pillage
Leaving traumatic legacies in its wake
This discolored first light
Of  a longed for dawn
Displacement from homeland
Know not where bound
Maps became outdated
Frontiers were decided
Strangers in a new world
Refugee status conferred
Rendered homeless overnight

A continent divided.
