Homecoming: A poem by Anjali Srivastava

He stretched his body and opened his one eye,
Peeping from the broken egg, he saw the sky!
Now he woke up and stepped out of his shell,
after one step, his weak legs trembled and he fell!
He tried hard, again and again, to move forward,
succeeded at last, and very glad to be admired!
He looked around and loved the beauty of the world,
He tried to fly like his folk, as he was a bird!
Plenty of food was available as it was summer,
But the situation changed with the changing weather!
Many of his flocks left their homes and flew away,
He flew with his family, there was no other way!
It was quite hilarious, tiring, and troublesome,
After flying miles, the weather was so awesome!
Hurried to land as he was hungry, tired, and impatient,
But some elderly birds stopped, as it wasn’t abundant.
After flying a bit more, there was a big sea-shore,
Plenty of food including fish, snails, and many more.
The weather changed again and seawater was warming,
Flying back miles, he was happy on his homecoming!
