For the First Time in My Life: A Poem by Charu Kalra

I confronted the ironies and battled endless strife.
Words gleamed in the vortex of life,
Soul wreathed with roses and thorns,
Yearned for succour in the iridescent shades of the nascent dawn.

I gained the strength to conquer unsaid fears,
And no longer shed copious tears.
Gave voice to my basal emotions,
Upheld wisp of beliefs and sublime notions.

From the umbra of obscurity and fragments,
With shards of shattered remnants.
Wove strings of hope from the smothered heart,
I embarked and carved my way along the tempestuous path.

From the debris of forlorn screams,
Rediscovered my halcyon dreams.
Tender and benign, I longed to fly
And capture the realms of the empyrean sky.

Liberated from the cloaks of darkness and confines,
Embraced incandescent streaks of sunshine.
I withdrew from the world of brevity and transience,
And celebrated my existence.
