‘Finding your way through my heart’s archway
You linger in my dreams and suffuse my thoughts;
I crave and relive those moments of bonding,
In the Nation’s service you sacrificed my days of longing.
Your child nurtured in my womb of delight,
Is now a fledgling learning to fly;
When he points to the aeroplanes flying up high,
I look askance at the wide blue sky.
Seeking solace from the rising moon
I light my lamp in the darkness of night;
Awaiting your return from borders far away,
Hoping for a message that would keep fears at bay.
Choking on tears when the little one smiles
With dimples that remind me of your guiles.
Then with quiet steps and sudden embrace
When you returned home, sheltered with grace;
My elusive heart raced with joy
Your chest warm beneath my hands, dispelling fantasy;
A singular teardrop reflecting ecstasy.
