Ambition: A poem by Jayashree Pillai

A little spark, fanned by
A gust of hope led me
To the arc lights.
I failed.
I still remember that night.
My pillowcase
Lay drenched with broken dreams :
Till the morning light
Brought with it a fire
That swamped the musky air.
Ambition is indefatigable.
Time melted into moments,
Each carrying with it a handful of grit.
When the lights came on,
I sang, each word driven by faith
Held together by threads of an ambition
To reach for the stars.
And when I looked down,
I saw my tears smile back at me.
