A Solitary Winter Night: A Poem by Rupal Desai

The darkness falls softly, like a gentle hush,
As I sit alone, in this winter’s quiet rush.
The stars shine brightly, in the midnight sky,
But their light only highlights, the emptiness that I deny.
The world is hushed, in a quiet sleep,
But I’m awake, with only my thoughts to keep.
The wind whispers secrets, through the trees so tall,
But I’m not listening, for I’ve got my own pleas to recall.
I’m searching for comfort, in this cold winter’s night,
But it’s hard to find solace, when the loneliness feels like a fight.
The hours tick by slowly, as I sit in this chair,
Trying to find some peace, but it’s hard to bear.
The weight of this loneliness, it feels like a stone,
Pressing down on my heart, making it hard to call home.
But still I’ll hold on, to the hope in my heart,
That someday this loneliness, will be just a distant part.
Of a life that’s full of love, and connection and light,
A life that’s free from the shadows, of this solitary winter’s night.
