Meena, a married woman, was living in a traumatic relationship right after her marriage, as she was never given respectable treatment by her in-laws or her husband.
Being constantly compared to the elder brother’s wife for two reasons unnerved her: her looks and her family background. Despite being educated and a brilliant sports person, it offered no respite from the constant blabbering of my mother-in-law, as these virtues held no value in her eyes. Coming from a middle-class family, she had not brought any dowry or expensive gifts. This became a sore point in her marital relationship.
Soon, she became emotionally depressed but never lost hope. She thought of a different way to deal with her grief– she started taking part in various sports events in the society and soon became quite popular amongst other sports lovers. Though this did not gel with her in-laws, she stopped paying attention to it. There was an objection raised even for the tight outfits that she wore for this activity. She became quite unapologetic about pursuing her only passion. All the other residents of the society started looking up to her. She began teaching various sporting activities to children and adults, and was soon approached by the club to be their sports trainer.
All the sports enthusiasts in that area joined her classes to learn. Her skills and diligence started paying off in no time. The society started winning trophies in local competitions. All this brought laurels to the club, to her and with time, even her in-laws started accepting her the way she was.
The earlier issues never existed now, though it was an uphill task for her all this time. Her husband, too, started taking pride in her as there were praises pouring from all corners and her skills got validation.
