ALS Indigenous Languages, in collaboration with The Asian Literary Society (ALS), celebrated International Mother Language Day with a Poetic Tribute and a poetry contest for its vibrant community.

On this occasion, a virtual event was organized with acclaimed poets and language enthusiasts to honor linguistic diversity through heartfelt poetic expressions. Distinguished participants included Mr. Perwaiz Shaharyar, Ms. Anita Chand, Ms. Swapna Behera, and Mr. Bijoy Sankar Barman, who shared evocative tributes in Urdu, Hindi, Odia, and Assamese languages. The evening was gracefully moderated by Mr. Manoj Krishnan, Founder of the Asian Literary Society.

The celebration also spotlighted the results of the highly popular International Mother Language Day: 8-Line Poetry Contest, themed around “Mother Language.” After receiving numerous original entries, the judges declared Sandhyarani Dash as the winner for her outstanding poem.

The Asian Literary Society extends sincere thanks to all participants and attendees who made the evening a memorable tribute to our mother tongues. “Language is not just words; it is emotion, culture, and identity. Every voice deserves to be heard,” said the organizers, echoing the spirit of UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day.

International Mother Language Day is celebrated annually on February 21 to promote linguistic diversity, multilingualism, and the protection of mother tongues worldwide. ALS Indigenous Languages is an initiative by Manoj Krishnan that aims to preserve, promote, and revitalize indigenous languages and art forms.
