Train

Kavita stood motionless at the railway station, teary-eyed, engrossed in her world. The bag on her shoulders was not as heavy as the thoughts bogging her mind.

She had left everything behind in her small house, but not her feelings for her ailing mother. A tough decision to leave her with her younger sister, with a plan to go to a metro city to earn enough money for her mother’s treatment.

Having lost her father at an early age, she had no other option. The train halted for a few minutes, but before she could gather her wits, it moved.

Behind Porticos

As I juggle family and career, Malti, my domestic help, takes charge of things perfectly. Widowed early, ill-treated by her brother and his wife, her aged mother, who had been my part-time helper, had brought her along once. Feeling pity, I took her in.

Recently, Malti became friends with the neighbour’s gardener. I was happy, wary too! “Poor man’s smoky chambers are not porticos of moral values,” lingered somewhere, until…

Glancing through the live video from my office, I rushed home.

While he was rummaging through the jewellery, she had trapped the gardener inside the bedroom and called the cops.
