The Sky belonged to me,
Breaking the clouds,
I flew a thousand miles.
Happy holding the anchor,
I sailed in the vast expanse,
I spoke to birds, caressed their tender feathers,
The shades of the rainbow,
Coloured my dreams,
I was wandering in the trail of the sun’s golden light,
Until my ship wrecked midway,
In an unnamed constellation far away,
I struggled in the dark labyrinth,
Beneath a fog of fire and despair,
I heard nothing, I felt nothing,
Only the sound of my fading breath,
My body writhed in the burning fire,
Waiting for the black air to engulf me,
Detours of my destiny,
Took me to an uneven lane,
A sword pierced my chest,
Wounded, I bled,
Waving at the sky,
Farewell! My voyage had ended.
In memory of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal (1968-2025), veteran Air India pilot
