Who or what inspired you to embark on your journey in the field of Arts?
My passion for art is from childhood. In my college days I used to actively participate in art competitions.
During the pandemic, I started painting again after almost two decades for meditation. This was my new start in the world of colours.
Have you pursued any formal or professional training in arts or are you self-taught?
I am a self taught contemporary artist. I have not undertaken any professional degree in arts. I’m a PhD in Chemistry and worked as a lecturer at Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad.
I’ve moved from mixing salts in science labs to mixing colours for my paintings and portraying my thoughts on canvases.
What is your practice routine?
I generally try to practice daily on a canvas or paper by doing sketches.
Who has been your biggest influence or inspiration for your growth in arts?
I have always been a great admirer of master artists’ work like MF Hussain, Raja Ravi Verma, Amrita Sher-Gil who inspire me to paint something new everytime I pick my brush.
How do you approach creating new artwork? Do you follow some personal guidelines?
As I mentioned earlier, I was a science student, and I always tried to do experiments and create something fascinating. This approach helped me in creating new styles on canvases.
Which is your preferred medium for art?
I love to do experiments with water colours, acrylic colours, oil paints, charcoal and pencil sketches.
Tell us about your art goals for this year.
I want to paint more and more. And make the life of people more bright and colourful.
What would you advise aspiring artists, especially the ones who consider themselves too old to start with this creative form of expression?
One must never give up, you’ll never know when the stars align and your painting gets the spotlight. In any creative field we should always try to learn and develop our skills to give our best whenever we are given a chance.
For the ones thinking that they’re too old to start, you should never be worried about what others will be thinking of you, it’s never too late to start. For instance, Rabindranath Tagore started painting when he was 60 despite winning several awards in writing and poetry.
