Shilpa Bhatnagar, an engineer from reputed Aligarh Muslim University turned into accomplished Indian artist who captures the essence of Indian lives through her vibrant and expressive acrylic artworks. Who or what inspired you to embark on your journey in the field of arts?
Self evaluation and the passion ‘to create the best out of the worst’ embarked the journey in the field of Arts.
Have you pursued any formal or professional training in arts, or are you self-taught?
No, I have not pursued any formal training in arts.
What is your practice routine?
The thoughts and ideas go round the clock and I practice daily sometime on canvas, sometime in my kitchen and sometime on any paper.
Who has been your biggest influence or inspiration for your growth in arts?
A sentence once said by my father in my childhood is my biggest inspiration for growth in my art: “Keep making the canvas of your life beautiful”. So each of my creation beautifies my life.
How do you approach creating new artwork? Do you follow some personal guidelines?
The inner and outer thoughts helps me in creating new artworks. ‘Listen to your heart’ is the only personal guidelines I follow.
Which is your preferred medium for art?
Preferably, acrylic and water colors.
Tell us about your art goals for this year.
I want to achieve new fusion in the art this year and become a familiar face among top artists.
What would you advise aspiring artists, especially those who consider themselves too old to start this creative form of expression?
The art is in everybody and is food for the artist’s soul. It is a meditation that can be practiced at any stage of life. Playing with colours in your own style can be started anytime of life.
