This January, maybe I’ll start watching my figure,
wearing cool clothes to make me look slimmer
This January, maybe I won’t be so needy,
learn to conduct myself in class,
Learn not to say the wrong thing at the wrong time,
struggle with my words and fall and crash.
This January, maybe I will learn to be more reserved;
This January, maybe I won’t be so awkward,
fiddle with my fingers and gracelessly dawdle.
This December, maybe I’ll realize there’s nothing wrong with that dress that makes me look a little chubby,
This December, maybe I’ll realize it’s a gift to be this full of life and joy,
This December, maybe I will learn that it’s better to be awkward, bubbly and happy,
than to be quiet and despairing,
This December, maybe I will learn that not trying is worse than failing,
This December, maybe I will realize New Year’s resolutions aren’t fit one, fit all,
And this January, maybe I’ll learn I don’t need to change a thing about myself at all.
