Facelift: A Poem by Sujata Dash

I noticed wrinkles for the first time
As I closely looked at the mirror after a while
Like unwanted tendrils they grew all over
Invaded each inch of my physiognomy
Oh my God!, I shouted in utter disgust
Unable to wallow the tweak in me
Lamenting the erstwhile shiny silky skin
Each furrow, each ridge ,I examined carefully
Mollified them with love and empathy
Like a solicitous parent does to a shaken child
My spouse of three decades and more
Was passing by the room connecting corridor
Where the huge florid mirror was lodged
He could promptly read all those unsaid
Looked deep into my eyes and shared…
“Ageing gracefully is in vogue as of now honey!
Wrinkles, grey hairs are fabulous brands I acquiesce
Each pleat tells a tale , each fold narrates a story
You should be proud of your long and bright innings”
This was like a facelift, honing my perspective of life.
