A Drifting Boat: A Poem by Dr. Shilpa Chakrabarti

Two boats, each different from the other,
Had been together for years
tied to the bank, anchored deep.
Both cross the same routes,
loaded with passengers, everyday-
Different are their boatmen, who profit much reap. For over a decade, they’ve been here ferrying people,
No complaints, but offering them a pleasant ride.
They often start the journey together,
timings quite same-
Yet, they drift apart,
as they seem to draw closer to prevent any mishap,
else they may collide.

So often we embark upon our life’s journey,
With people who are close to us-
How often can we drift away, evade clashes, wisely-
Yet, continue to sail across, avoiding unnecessary fuss?
