I sit by the large glass window
Seeing the yellow autumn leaves fall,
Waiting for the deafening stillness
To break with that one phone call.
I wait ardently for him to call
From across the seven seas,
To enthrall me with silly tales
Or just melt my heart with his loving pleas.
I recollect the day he took flight
On his young wings, excited to explore,
I eagerly cut the chains of bonded love
Though it broke my heart to see him go.
I hardly keep up with umpteen messages
Or try chatting apps on a daily spree,
Always wait for that one call from my kid which
causes a river of joy to flow and nourish a withering tree!
