An Interview with Ms. Priya Mathivanan

Ms. Priya Mathivanan

Who or what inspired you to embark on your own journey in the world of arts?

Whoever sees my work, I was appreciated, so that gave me a kick to start.

Have you studied arts or obtained formal training in it?

No, I’m self-taught. In Tamilnadu, from childhood days we put ‘kolam’ outside or house every day. I loved it. So that was my basic art class.

Describe your art style.

Freestyle. I don’t follow anything particular. Anything which interests me, I learn,  I do.

For how many years have you practiced your art, and have you had to overcome any hurdles on the way?

I’ve been doing it for the past 20yrs. I don’t get the time to do more. That’s my hurdle.

What memorable responses have you had to your work?

Many have asked me to do custom pieces for their home ya offices.

What do you aim to achieve in the future?

Keep doing what I’m doing. Learn more about all art forms.

Is there any specific area you now wish to explore?

Yes,  Tanjore painting.

What would you advise youngsters inclined towards the arts?

Every individual should learn one art form. It gives you such inner peace in this stressful world. It is like meditation. Not only painting, there are so many other art forms. But do have one.
