Companion
As he sat on the edge of the bed, overlooking the half-open window, he tried hard to see the bird rubbing his eyes, perching on one of the branches of the barren colossal tree in the backyard.
The ailing old man, extremely lonely, would wait for the bird, as it was his only companion. He felt the closeness upon hearing the chirping sound, as he lay confined to his bed. This became his daily routine, and he developed a superstition that he would live only till he enjoyed this company, as the busy family members had no time for him.

Misunderstanding
The weight of unspoken words hung heavily between the two. A small misunderstanding had driven them apart. Priyanka’s smile and laughter were her most prized possessions, and without them, she didn’t seem like herself at all. Unlike the friendly days they once shared, Ajay no longer tried to revive her lost smile; in fact, he didn’t even notice its absence.
The days filled with non-stop chatter, crazy giggles, and sweet exchange of caring words were now distant memories.
Putting her ego aside one last time, Priyanka dialled Ajay’s number. He answered the call, only to block her number for good.
