Thanksgiving Without Turkey

“Mom, where’s the turkey?” Anna called from the kitchen.

“I thought you had it!” her mother Linda replied, rushing in, eyes wide.

“Nope. You said you would pick it up.”

Linda’s face fell, then she laughed. “Well, we’re really in a pickle now.”

Anna shook her head, smiling. “Actually, I think we’re in a tofu,” she said, holding up a block.

Linda sighed, but a grin spread. “Guess we’re doing a vegetarian Thanksgiving. Think everyone will survive?”

Anna nodded. “It’s about family, not the bird.”

They shared a hug.

“Alright, let’s do this,” Linda said. “Tofu feast, here we come!”

Gently she braided her hair one last time. Heart aflutter, she entered a salon. “Just the cut, please,” she instructed the stylist!

Snip!!! And her long plait was gone–destined to become a cancer patient’s crown! Her drastic pixie cut would certainly set tongues wagging!
