Red Rose: A Poem by Poonam Kakodkar

My eyes were riveted by the
Dewy soft, velvety petals
In a crimson red hue
That only nature could create.
It was held tightly in his hand,
Carefully shorn of any piercing thorn
Just emerald green leaves caressed the
Dainty stem.
That single red rose was
In and out of my sight
For the entire day
It never left his hand.
As I was about to leave,
There he was, kneeling down
With a sweet smile on his lips
And the red rose in his hand.
I felt a sense of joy seeping
Through my entire body as I accepted
That single red rose
A sign of deep love and commitment.
