Broken: A Poem by Archna Jain

I’m a glass doll
delicate and fragile
Over-awed, they placed me
On the showcase shelf
Saying I’m too precious
Out of reach of anyone
I was all alone
Slowly, the novelty wore off
They handled me roughly
Like a girl of flesh and skin
They broke my body
Shattered my mind
Splintered my spirit
Now I lie forgotten
In a store room
Still all alone
Full of nicks
And cracks
Right through my body
To my very core
