Awry Ambition: A poem by Lalita Vaitheeswaran

The ladder of ambition was steep and high
Every rung on it throwing challenges to try
Each step she set her foot concealed an entice
Every pace turned out to be an altar of sacrifice
The first she lost was the family cohesive
As she dared to venture to unreachable goals achieve
Such an attraction irresistible was the fascinating lure
The grim line of morality and her desires became obscure
Every step denuded her of her own ethical pneuma
Her psyche was scathed with invisible trauma
As she took the final stride to reach her quest
She was alone, her emotions put to rest
Her raison d’etre  to reach the peak took a toll
A hecatomb of sorts where she lost her own soul
