‘Where there is a will, there is a way’ – This is an all-time famous proverb. The teachers in schools, the parents at home, and the elders in societies use this proverb and try to convince the children that “setting a bigger goal” and “working hard” result in achieving success in life.
There are several success stories in this world, which are based on the principle that this proverb tries to explain. Great authors, scientists and politicians like William Shakespeare, Michael Faraday and Abraham Lincoln used their self-belief and willpower to achieve great success in their lives.
A bird gathers much wind beneath its wings to stay afloat in the sky. The more the strength of the bird, the more time it can continuously fly in the sky. The albatross and the eagles are such examples. These birds use their inner strength and will power, and boost their external strength to face storms.
Life is a journey full of ups and downs. While inner strength helps in achieving great success during favorable times, it helps in remaining strong enough in unfavorable situations too.
Let me explain about a particular instance in my life. I was mostly placed in technical positions or in supervising office work during my first twenty-eight years of service. Later, I was placed as in-charge of management and operation of services in four remote naxalite districts for a period of more than three years. The duty was quite challenging- maintaining services in four districts (largest geographical area in the state) full of hills and forests, with prevalence of left-wing extremists with a large network, and five hundred plus staff and workmen.
I was away from my family for three years. I worked in a remote and difficult place and kept all the responsibilities on my head. Initially, I was scared. But later I became comfortable. “If my predecessors had done it, why can’t I? Am I so inferior to others in discharging such duties?” I thought.
My willpower grew exponentially. I believed in my inner power. Despite all obstacles, I stayed afloat and successfully completed my tenure.
That was a wonderful period of my career. I believe that internal strength has more capacity than external strength. It is truly said, “Belief in self is the mighty wind beneath the wings.”
